A YEAR COMPLETE

Image
A YEAR COMPLETE BY   RHONNI GRIEG Another year  completed ! Another 365 days filled with the all-embracing moments of what truly makes a year  complete . From the fresh scent of holding a newborn baby, to the arrival of a stunning bride at the threshold to meet her awaiting groom, to the slow and final promenade of one you have come to call “cherished” offering my final farewell… These are the foundational moments in my year that made it  complete . You may ask, why these three events? These three events represent the arc of a life and they remind us of life’s beginnings, middles, and ends. When experienced within a year, they each help to bring focus and perspective to the cycles of a lifespan measured by distance and relationship to the sun.  The perpetual orbit, which marks the seasons and completion of a year and the beginning of a new. When we are able to participate in and celebrate these events during a year, we are invited to reflec...

Transfer news: Brandt to Arsenal; Balogun to Liverpool

Image
The latest transfer news includes Julian Brandt to Arsenal and Folarin Balogun to Liverpool as Premier League get ready for the January window to open. Let’s stay with a potential incoming at Arsenal, as the Gunners hierarchy continue to back Mikel Arteta but clearly a large squad overhaul is needed. Brandt to Arsenal? German attacking midfielder Julian Brandt, 24, has been in and out of the Borussia Dortmund team in recent seasons following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019, and The Athletic believes he is a target for the Gunners. With Gio Reyna, Jadon Sancho, Thorgan Hazard, Jude Bellingham, and others emerging in the midfield positions, Brandt has done okay but has only scored eight goals in 64 appearances for Dortmund. Following Lucien Favre’s departure as Dortmund's boss, there will be a few players surplus to requirements and Brandt has only recorded one assist in his latest 18 appearances for Dortmund, most of which have been off the bench. Would he fit in at Arsena...

Lampard fury at ‘lazy’ Chelsea after loss at Arsenal

Image
Frank Lampard is fuming with Chelsea after “lazy” decisions cost them a chance to second place in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and he’s not keeping his fury private. The Chelsea manager says his players were well-instructed about the threat provided by a derby rival who was winless in seven Premier League matches. They just didn’t do their jobs against a slumping foe and he’s very angry with them. “That’s one for the players,” Lampard said. “I take responsibility on the outside but players need to take responsibility cause the message was clear. This is a dangerous game for us: talented team, back against the wall, London derby. We were in a position where we could second and they were in a position where they might be looking downwards. That’s a dangerous combination. If you go out and play at 60-70 percent, or a few players play at that level, you’re not gonna win any game in the Premier League.” Reece James gave away the penalty to Kieran Tierney. Replays show that...

THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Image
ON THIS DAY IN 1994, A FRENCH AIRLINER WHICH WAS HIJACKED ON CHRISTMAS EVE IN ALGIERS BY FOUR PERSONS FINALLY LANDED IN MARSIELLE AND A FRENCH GENDAMERIE BOARDED THE AIRCRAFT AND KILLED THE HIJACKERS. The Air France Flight 8969 was hijacked by the Armed Islamic Group of Algeria (GIA) at Houari Boumediene Airport, Algiers, Algeria. The terrorists murdered three passengers and their intention was to blow up the plane over the Eiffel Tower in Paris. When the aircraft reached Marseille, the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group(GIGN), a counter-terror unit of the French National Gendarmerie, stormed the plane and killed all four hijackers. Most of the passengers, about138 of the passengers were Algerian citizens. A significant number of the passengers were French people leaving Algeria. Captain Bernard Delhemme said that the hijackers, who had extensively planned the operation, did not anticipate that most of the passengers would be Algerians. The hijackers recited Quran verses and tried...

The One Thing We Know in Uncertain Times

Image
But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the LORD. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the LORD, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the LORD Almighty. ‘This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.’  –  Haggai 2:4,5 When you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can be certain of one thing in any time of trouble, suffering, hardship, difficulty, pain or tragedy: the Lord is with you! Time and again in his Word, he assures you of his presence: • “The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you” ( 2 Chronicles 15:2 ). • “Stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you . . . Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” ( 2 Chronicles 20:17 ). • “Do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you and will save you and deliver you from his hands” ( Jeremiah 42:11 ). • “Be strong, al...

ONE THING FOR CHRISTMAS

BY   RHONNI GRIEG If you knew that there was just “one thing” you could do that would impact everything else in your life and bring about the greatest blessing, would you do it? Each of us have an abundance of decisions filled with opportunities and challenges. Some decisions can lead to accomplishment and triumph, while others can usher in unexpected and disheartening setbacks and detours. It can be overwhelming to navigate through the roadmaps offered by self-help resources, motivational targets, self-proclaimed experts, and varying world-views. We desire to do what is “best” and whatever leads to a depth of truth and authenticity. It can be so daunting, that we can end up settling for what’s the most expedient or the current trend, never finding a clear pathway or place to rest and experience true joy. Where does one begin, especially if you’re a Christian believing that God has called you by name, who revealed His love for you through His son Jes...
