1. A MESSAGE ON THE CORONAVIRUS A TIME FOR UNITY, A TIME FOR THOUGHT, A TIME FOR ACTION: Today is my birthday. I thank God for giving me the life and time on earth he has provided me. He has blessed me beyond the ability of words to describe; 2. I am more than cognizant of His great mercies toward me. I have much to be thankful for. However, this is not the moment for exuberant celebration or light talk on my part. 3. At this moment, it is better that we confer in prudence and wisdom, one to another, so that we can better deal with that which seems eager to severely deal with us. 4. We have entered a sobering period. We face a challenge we cannot see but one that can find us all too easily. As individuals, this puts every one of us at a startling disadvantage. Each is rendered vulnerable by the reckless act of his neighbour. 5. Each is made safer by the enlightened conduct of a stranger. The very nature of this assailant calls us toward greater unity and kindness. I...

COVID-19 Finally, some sensible advice from a Nurse

Image
“What I have seen a lot of are recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place -- good hand washing, personal hygiene and social distancing -- but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it. So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions: You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. Just have the foresight to know it ‘might’ come your way! 1.    Things you should actually buy ahead of time (not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?): - Kleenex, - Paracetamol, - whatever your generic, mucus thinning cough medicine of choice is (check the label and make sure you're not doubling up on Paracetamol) - Honey and lemon can work just as well!    -  Vick vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion. 2.   If you don’t have a humidifier, that would be a good thing to ...

CORONAVIRUS: LASG TO SHUT DOWN SCHOOLS

Image
As part of the preventive measures against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Government is closing down all public and private schools from Monday, 23rd March 2020. The move becomes necessary to prevent our children and their teachers from getting more vulnerable to the pandemic. It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing’ while at home, wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitizers and observe high standards of personal hygiene. Children should be encouraged to remain at home. The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat. The Incident Command Centre, headed by the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is the Incident Commander, will continue to trace all contacts of the identified cases and encourage anyone who has information about suspected cases to report to the nearest hospital or call  the emergency telephone numbers 080231...

How To Be Happy When Your World Is Falling Apart

Image
The principles are always the same: 1.       You’re not a victim.  Take responsibility  for your life. If “these things” keep happening to you or you keep attracting the same kind of negative people, stop being the kind of person that attracts those kinds of people and circumstances. Find people who seem to be immune to these things, spend time with them, study them.  Emulate them. Take responsibility for your part in the situation.  This does not mean being the martyr and assuming responsibility for everything.  You’re only taking responsibility for your actions. 2.       You can’t control other people or your environment.  Stop trying to control. If other people let you down or don’t do what you expect of them, ask if your expectations are realistic.  If you were the other person, would you appreciate someone writing a script for you and getting mad when you don’t follow it? T...
